Gene Roddenberry's STARSHIP

At least my interpretation of it. :) I wanted to make it a "starship" in a more literal sense, so I put something that looks like a tiny star at its heart.

Starship built in Hexagon and Carrara, rendered in Carrara. Planet texture by Hameed [link] rendered in Carrara. Background created using Glitterato and NASA photos. Composited in Paintshop Pro 10.

Whew...when I saw the thumbnail I thought "Is that a Trek ring ship exploding?!" Cool idea, now that's what I'd call magnetic containment!

From what little I was able to find on the internet, it might have been too highbrow. But with the current trend towards green movements, a show with a "save the planet before it's too late" message might be able to fly today.

Oooooo. Ahhhhhhh. Really beautiful. Perfect sense of power, mystery, and high-tech future optimism. A perfect homage to what was (sadly) re-crafted to become Andromeda. If only this one had sold back when Roddenberry could have helmed it.
